The General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) is a European Union data protection regulation adopted by the European Union Commission.
The GDPR replaces the previous regulation, the EU Data Protection Directive, Directive 95/46/EC, which was adopted in 1995. The GDPR came into force on 25 May 2018 and applies to all parties, both individuals and businesses.

What is GDPR?
GDPR is a legal framework and privacy protection regulation in Europe that has been in effect since May 25, 2018. GDPR replaces the previous regulation, the EU Data Protection Directive, Directive 95/46/EC. Data protection regulations govern how businesses collect, use, and distribute personal data about individuals.
This regulation requires businesses to process the personal data of individuals, domiciled in Europe, openly and that individuals can exercise their rights protected by applicable law in the scope of their personal data, (for example, accessing, correcting or deleting data), and ensures the availability of security to protect the data that has been collected.
Who does GDPR apply to?
The GDPR applies to all entities and individuals domiciled in the European Union, and all entities and individuals that process the personal data of EU citizens, whether domiciled in the European Union or not. The GDPR defines personal data as information that can identify an individual. This is a broad definition, and includes personal data, such as names and contact details, as well as data that can be used to indirectly identify an individual, such as IP addresses.
